Kissimmee, FL- Arabian Nights recently hosted more than 1,400 attendees from 35 states in a private and customized show for DECA members. The opening session for the 50th Annual Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference took place at Arabian Nights on Wednesday April 13, 2011. DECA is a not- for-profit organization that prepares emerging leaders for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the world.

The collegiate officer team for DECA chose Arabian Nights to create a customized experience for their attendees by booking a private show. The team wanted to incorporate theatrical lighting, costumes and music to create special introductions and recognition for staff and attendees.

The private event took the place of the regular Arabian Nights show and lasted approximately 3 hours from start to finish. Arabian Nights offers a wide variety of corporate event services, with a private show being the most exclusive option for large groups.

The staff at Arabian Nights prepared meals in three locations to accommodate the large dinner party; the Arena, Skybox and Great Hall. Groups from the different chapters arrived at varying times and all were served dinner before being re-seated in the Arena for their opening ceremonies and the main performance.

Once the ceremonies began, four DECA officers entered the arena in a horse-drawn carriage in authentic Arabian Nights costumes to welcome the attendees with the help of the DECA President, who made announcements from the stage in the arena while also in costume. All 35 states in attendance were recognized in an announcement and a special parade of flags in the arena. New chapters were introduced and recognition given for two representatives who had been serving with DECA for 30 years. The atmosphere was fun and high-energy, with cheering sections on either side of the arena getting very enthusiastic, some even doing the wave.

This event is the first of several private events scheduled to take place at Arabian Nights in 2011.

Horse Profiles #1: Iberian

Author: arabiannightsfl | Filed under: Backstage Pass, From the Stables

We figured since we were giving background information on the varied employees of Arabian Nights, we should also include our star performers – the horses! Enjoy the first in our series “Horse Profiles“.

Name: AM Iberian Design
Nickname: Iberian
Breed: Arabian
Year Born: 1996

Iberian is one of the most highly trained horses in the Arabian Nights show. Iberian performs a variety of Dressage maneuvers know as Haute École or “High School” movements. They are called this because they require a higher education of both the horse and rider to perform the movements correctly. A few of the maneuvers are the Spanish Walk, Passage and Piaffe. The Passage is one of Iberian’s best movements, as he seems to be suspended in mid-air while he trots.
Iberian is not only an excellent performer, but also a sweet and loving horse. He will lip at your pockets or shirtsleeve if he feels he isn’t getting enough attention. He is also quite good at giving hugs; if you wrap your arms around his neck he will turn his head to rub your back. He is also easy to pick out in our herd of grey Arabian horses because of his unique mane that we refer to as “pony fuzz” because it sticks up in a fuzzy poof no matter how much conditioner you put in it.

Iberian is also featured on the Black Stallion Literacy Foundation’s road show, where children across the country see him, along with other Arabian Nights horses, in a special performance that gets them excited about reading. Currently Iberian is travelling with the road show to Arizona, Arkansas and Kentucky for performances in late April and early May. Learn more about that here .

Day in the Life of…..ME

Author: arabiannightsfl | Filed under: Backstage Pass

Yup, that’s right – this week you will get to know me, Nadia Persaud, your faithful blogger/social media connoisseur/PR & Marketing Assistant. I’ve been with Arabian Nights for almost a year now and I truly hope you’ve noticed and enjoyed the changes we’ve made regarding social media and our marketing initiatives.

Before Arabian Nights, I was doing Marketing & Events for Absolutely Incomparable Events, a company I still currently work for when time permits. I loved planning and creating events but I was really interested in utilizing my Marketing degree and getting more into the PR & Marketing aspect of things. Lucky for me Arabian Nights was hiring, didn’t mind that I wasn’t a horse person, and recognized what a great addition I would make! Now let’s see what I really do everyday….

I woke up today around: 7:00 a.m. thanks to my puppy Ziggy *sigh* Love him but I definitely miss my sleep!

My Breakfast/Lunch of Champions: Breakfast is usually a Nutri-Grain bar and coffee (a must), and I  enjoy either something unhealthy or when I’m being good and remember, something from home, with my lunch buddies.

I got into work today around: Hmm anywhere from 10-10:30 a.m. normally, depending on I-4 traffic.

The first thing I do when I come in: Say good morning to everyone on my way to my office at the end of the hall! Then I log into all my various sites: company email, Facebook, Twitter, TripAdvisor etc. and check out what all has happened since the day before on our company pages/listings.

The highlights of my day are: Reading good reviews from guests, seeing fan interaction on our Twitter and Facebook page (ArabianNightsFL/@arabiannightsfl), having lunch with my lunch buddies, making Starbucks runs with co-workers, finding new ones to utilize social media or promote the show, recording new YouTube videos (even if it means me standing in the middle of the arena with 5 heavy draft horses running free around me), and just chatting and getting to know the people I work with!

My day usually ends around: 6:00 p.m.

After work I normally: Go to the gym, unless I’ve been talked into drinks with co-workers, or got tickets for Magic game. GO MAGIC!

My favorite part of working here: Never knowing what each day can bring, one day I’m sitting at my computer happily tweeting away – the next I’m standing in the middle of humongous horses running free all around me! I love that it keeps me on my toes – not to mention I have awesome co-workers!

Signing off thoughts/comments: Hmmm other than to ask all of you to get “social” with us via Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, this blog, and our newsletter (whew), I’d like to leave you with my all time favorite quote – “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.” – William Ernest Henley

Hope you all enjoyed getting to know more about me, the voice behind the blog. I think I’m mildly interesting and I hope you felt the same! Stay tuned for next week’s blog and be sure to get socially connected with us if you haven’t already.
